HIGH LOW BUFFALO

Baxter St is excited to host HIGH LOW BUFFALO an exhibition featuring a selection of work from eleven artists from the University of Hartford’s 2024 MFA Graduating Class made over the past two years accompanied by their photo books.The artists in the exhibition are Peggy Anderson, Janet Boyko, Matt Calarco, Anastasia Davis, Chloe Jones, Ruth Lauer Manenti, Andrew D. McClees, Andy Richter, Ben Sklar, Andrés Felipe Vargas, and Charlie Weber.
The title originates from a reflective practice they adopted after each school session. This ritual encouraged them to recognize and share the highs, lows, and unexpected moments – the “buffalos” – of their time together.
The works on view, all selections from more extensive personal projects, represent a stop along the group’s shared trajectory. They have used portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and abstractions to speak to broader themes of home, belonging, desire, and loss. The work reflects the space they have created for each other and their commitment to image making.
