‘Seeing’ cyanotype workshop with Ananya Garg and Louise Yeung
Seeing is a friendship-building workshop that invites people to draw each other and turn those drawings into collaborative cyanotypes. Through blind contours, which involve drawing without looking at your pen or paper, we encourage people to focus on observing and building connections with their partners–whether you are looking to make a new friend or to deepen a relationship with someone you came with. Pairs will then develop three fabric cyanotype prints of their drawings together: one for each of the partners to take home and a third for us to create a collective quilt that can be on display at Baxter Street. We invite people of all ages and backgrounds to join!

Louise Yeung (she/her) strives to envision and build a better world as a queer visual artist and urban planner. In her creative practice, Louise explores migratory relationships between people, plants, and animals who transform new environments to call home. Louise’s place-based approach to her creative practice is informed heavily by her work in climate justice policy and organizing. She is a co-founder of Sunken Press 沉香出版, an art collaborative with Gloria Lau. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Octavia Project, which empowers femme, trans, and non-binary teens through creative writing, art, and science fiction.
Ananya Garg (she/her) is a queer South Asian educator, writer, visual artist, and oral historian. Her artmaking process is a one of prayer to honor ancestors, present community, and future generations. She is currently completing an oral history project gathering stories about chosen families from LGBTQ+ South Asians. You can find Ananya’s writing in YES! Magazine, Asian American Feminist Collective, and elsewhere. Her film MANGO premiered at the Cadence Video Poetry Film Festival in 2020.
