Reading Performance by Christopher Clary: Saturday June 11th at 2pm
This spring, BAXTER ST at CCNY will host the 6th annual Zine & Self-Published Photo Book Fair on June 11th and 12th, with the opening reception on June 10th from 6 to 8 pm. This year the Fair is curated by Anouk Kruithof and will include special installations by Bob Civil, Curtis Hamilton, Devin Morris, and Peter Puklus. On Saturday the 11th at 2 pm Christopher Clary will read from his zine Sorry to dump on you like this.zip. In an interview for The Photographs’ Gallery Blog Kruithof says: “For me a book is an experience, an intimate meeting as well. A book has no closing hours. Photography and the book format goes naturally hand in hand, so to me it has always been part of my practice to make works of which the final outcome is the book. My books are photo-based artist books. So the book is the work basically. I like to walk through a book with my fingers and my mind, the same way I explore the world when traveling.” Assisting Kruithof with the fair is Zine Fair Coordinator Izabela Jurcewicz. Join us over the 10th-12th weekend to see an exciting array of self-published works that push the boundaries of traditional book-making today.

Anouk Kruithof (1981) is a Dutch artist based in New York. Her work has been exhibited internationally at institutions such as: The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; MBAL Switzerland; The Xiangning Art Museum, Shenzhen China; The Center for Photography at Woodstock; Multimedia Art Museum in Moskow, Erarta Museum, St. Petersburg; Culture and Arts Center, Daegu Korea; Capitain-Petzel Gallery, Berlin: KIT (Kunst Im Tunnel) Düsseldorf; Temporare Kunsthalle, Berlin, Autocenter Berlin; ICP, New York; Capricious Gallery, New York, Higher Pictures Gallery, New York, Museum het Domein Sittard, the Netherlands; BoetzelaerINispen Amsterdam, FOAM Amsterdam; The Netherlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam; MARCA museum Catanzaro, Italy; MAMAC (museum for modern and contemporary art) Liege, Belgium; among others. Kruithof is also co-creator, director and jury member of the new Anamorphosis Prize, which will award $10,000, no strings attached, to the creator of the best self-published photo-book from the previous year. The prize was launched for the first time in spring 2015.
Izabela Jurcewicz is a Polish photographer based in New York City. A graduate of the International Center of Photography (one-year program), University of Arts in Poznan (bachelor from Photography at Multimedia Department) and Warsaw University (master’s degree in Sociology), her works have been exhibited, among others, at the International Center of Photography and MONA Museum of the Newest Art in Poznan and during such international photography festivals as Month of Photography in Bratislava (OFF), 12th Fotofestival in Lodz, 8th Biennale of Photography in Poznan.
