This Conversations Series talk will center on collaborative practice. Studio Duo and Tal Gilboa & Elizabeth Stehl Kleberg will share their experiences as artists working collectively. Studio Duo is an initiative of two artists, Bia Monteiro and Matthew Papa, who curate projects for alternative spaces and publications. Tal Gilboa & Elizabeth Stehl Kleberg are artists working in collaboration who create installations with video projection and sculpture. Gilboa and Kleberg’s work will be on view at Baxter St from November 2nd through December 9th. The conversation will be moderated by collaborators Michi Jigarjian and Libby Pratt, President and Director respectively of Baxter St at CCNY and co-founders of New Draft Collective.
About the participants:
Studio Duo is an initiative of two artists Bia Monteiro and Matthew Papa. Using the intersection of our own practices, which focus on the body, we found a common area of interest for collaboration. These include original artworks and curating projects for alternative spaces.
Tal Gilboa (from Jerusalem, Israel) and Elizabeth Stehl Kleberg (from Virginia, USA) are working together in Brooklyn, creating collages, videos and sculptures. It is a collaboration between two artists and collected footage; the artists meet each other as their materials do – through dialogue and improvisation. They received their MFAs from Pratt Institute in 2016. Their work has been included in solo and group shows in New York at SOHO20 Gallery (NY) The Boiler Room, Pierogi Gallery (NY), Mulherin New York, Taylor University (IN), and Wayfarers Gallery (NY). They recently completed a residency at Vermont Studio Center.
New Draft Collective is a New York-based duo made up of Michi Jigarjian and Libby Pratt that operates as an artistic practice, facilitator, and publisher; and focuses particularly on reinvigorating and retelling history and culture within a contemporary context. While on a day-to-day basis New Draft Collective consists of Jigarjian and Pratt, the collective expands with each project, collecting new research and generating new collaborations along the way.
The Baxter St at CCNY Conversations Series is made possible in part by generous support from public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council.
